Reading: "A Kind of Grace" spelling test taken on Monday should have any missed words written correctly 7 times and signed by a parent, due tomorrow. Reading notebooks will be turned in at the END of class time tomorrow with "Under the Royal Palms" spelling words written 3 times, vocabulary definitions with sentences, and comprehension questions BP 490 1-6 answered in complete sentences (except the purple class will be Friday). Class time today and tomorrow should be enough time, but judge accordingly. I'm trying not to have homework so that the time can be used on the Autobiography Project/Book Report, due Monday. I can hardly wait to read the autobiographies!
Lang. Arts: DOL Sentences #7-10 Due: 10/3. Memorize "The Road Not Taken" by Monday, October 17. Remember to practice it LOUD, SLOW, AND CLEAR.
Math: Homework and Remembering worksheet. 1-14.
Science: Homework for tonight is to read about Jupiter and Saturn and then write 2 sentences about each one. We're learning awesome things about the planets. Enjoy.
Soc. Studies: Otzi sentence is due by midnight tonight or during class tomorrow. If you have been absent, read pgs. 32-37 in your history book. Study your Asian countries. Quiz October 6 (This is a change of date.) For those of you who have not turned in your Otzi sentence yet, make sure that you have someone older PROOF your sentence before you submit it either online or during class tomorrow. I will not be able to be online tonight sending you messages back and forth about what corrections to make. For those of you who have already submitted your sentence, check edmodo. If you have a low score it means there are mistakes that you need to fix. Click on GRADES at the top blue bar. Click on your color. Click on the OTZI assignment. Type your sentence in the comment/reply box. SEND IT. If you already have something typed do NOT click on resubmit assignment. It will delete everything. If you're redoing a sentence, type in the comment/reply box. I will no longer accept "computer problems" as an excuse for being unprepared. Students have had multiple times to watch videos etc. during recess and after school. There has always been the option to do assignments on paper. No more excuses! It's only one sentence. Be PROACTIVE and make sure that you get a good score!

Today we talked about Habit 4: Think Win-Win, Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood, and Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw. It's important for all of us to have balance in our lives. We need to do activities that will help our mind, heart, body, and soul.
*Parents: We are sensitive to the availability of the Internet. The large majority of the students have access at home. There were only a few students who mentioned that they did not have access. However, upon further inquiry, we have been made aware that the students had access to smart phones at home. On line assignments can be completed from any mobile device. Students can also use free Internet service at the public library. "Online homework" can be submitted in the traditional manner i.e. written on lined paper. Students just need to make sure that the assignment is labeled with their name and homebase color. Please be careful about typing the URL addresses we give you and make sure you know when your student is online. We cannot control what is on the Internet.

Language Arts: DOL #7
Homework:
Read 20 minutes and record your time.
Planner signed due 9-9
Soc. Studies: Finish up everything for the archeological dig. Turn in your list of ten items. Make sure to number them.
Reading: "Amelia Earhart" comprehension questions bp. 158 #'s 1-6 due Monday

HELP PARENTS! We still need a few parents to watch our classes this Friday from 8:30-9:00. You may volunteer to help with another homebase class. The students will be reading, in the media center, or in the computer lab. You will just need to monitor. It's important for us to have time to specifically talk about how to help different groups of students. We want all of the students to master skills and have a great sixth grade experience. If you could possibly help out with this Friday, please email a teacher. Thank You!

Here at our 6th Grade Falcon Academy, we encourage our students to serve others. The Yellow Group had an opportunity this morning to practice Habit 6: Synergize and they provided service to our custodian. The job of cleaning up the auditorium after last night's Back to School Night took only a few minutes because everyone worked together. Bradley was a great leader that made sure that chairs were placed on the rack correctly. Service opportunities will be available throughout the year for all 6th grade classes to practice working together as a team. At Falcon Academy, Teamwork and Service helps everyone!
With the PTA's goal this year of having Elk Meadows Elementary achieve a Gold Medal rating in physical fitness, they have asked 5th and 6th grade to incorporate the Presidential Physical Fitness Program into the curriculum. Our students were introduced to the program this week. There are several categories students need to be working on this year to earn the Presidential Award. They are: curl-ups, shuttle run, V-Sit Reach, one mile run, push ups, and pull-ups. We will send home a list of the requirements for the different categories next week, so students will know what they need to work on.
