Your Teachers



Mrs. Jennifer Boehme (Science/Math)
Mrs. Boehme grew up in Sandy, Utah, and was an honor student at Hillcrest High School. She graduated from BYU,  and after teaching several years, she earned her Master's in Business Administration from the University of Utah. Mrs. Boehme loves music and is an accomplished pianist and organist. She loves teaching music, and every year looks forward to having her students perform in a musical production that celebrates the cultural differences of many countries.  She has been married for 15 years and has enjoyed traveling the world with her husband.  She is currently approved to adopt and is eagerly looking forward to having that opportunity. Mrs. Boehme has taught sixth grade for 19 years in Riverton, West Jordan, and South Jordan. She loves to teach sixth graders and was honored has been recognized as West Jordan's Teacher of the Year.  Mrs. Boehme is a natural-born leader and has served in many education and community leadership positions because of her diplomatic and organizational talents. She is currently serving as the Jordan Education Association (JEA) President and has recently been re-elected to serve another two years. 

Mrs. Karlin Coombs (Science)
Mrs. Coombs grew up in Salt Lake City and Sandy, Utah. She graduated from Jordan High and spent a couple of years in Switzerland and France. She has eight children (six girls, two boys) and two grandsons who live in Oregon. After spending many years raising her family, she went back to school and graduated from BYU. She loves music, reading, sewing, traveling, the Cub Scouts, and making all kinds of crafts.   Mrs. Coombs has taught one year. She loves working with sixth graders and learning about astronomy. Last year, she was a judge at Jordan School District's Science Fair, and now she is eager to have a science fair at Elk Meadows become a new tradition. She is an excellent mother and brings many life experiences to her lessons.

Mrs. Wendi Bailey (Math/Technology Specialist)
Mrs. Bailey grew up in American Fork, Utah.  She is married and has four children. She graduated from Utah State University with a BA in Elementary Education, and then graduated from the University of Utah with a Masters Degree in Mathematics.  (However, it should be noted that Mrs. Bailey "bleeds blue," because she is a true BYU fan!)  She enjoys hiking, biking, reading, skiing, traveling, and watching her son play lacrosse and football at Bingham High School.  She believes in being physically active and enjoys running in competitive races.  She is a professional floral designer and is known for her beautiful flower arrangements. Mrs. Bailey is the technology specialist for Elk Meadows Elementary and mentors teachers as they learn to use new technologies. She has taught for 12 years in the Jordan School District, and she enjoys interacting with her students. She was recently named as South Jordan's 2011 Teacher of the Year.

Mrs. Lani Vigil (Reading/ESL)
Mrs. Vigil grew up in Sandy, Utah, where she was the Jordan High School mascot her senior year. She raised her family of four children before earning her BA in Elementary Education from Westminster University.  After teaching a few years, she earned a Master's Degree from the University of Phoenix in Curriculum and Assessment Education. She also has an extra ESL Endorsement (English as a Second Language). Mrs. Vigil loves music, playing the piano, reading John Grisham novels, spending time with her family, and especially being a grandmother. She has one granddaughter and one grandson. Mrs. Vigil has taught 22 years: 2nd grade in Sandy, 6th grade in Draper and here in South Jordan. She is one of the few remaining teachers at Elk Meadows, who have been here since the school first opened. Mrs. Vigil enjoys working with young people and was recognized as South Jordan's Teacher of the Year. The favorite part of teaching for Mrs. Vigil is learning more about each of her students.

Ms. Sandy King (Social Studies/Character and Leadership Education)
Ms. King grew up in American Fork, Utah, with two younger brothers. She attended Snow College, and then she spent a couple of years in Paraguay, South America.  Ms. King then graduated from Utah State University, majoring in Elementary Education with a minor in Social Science.  Ms. King has taught over 25 years in the 3rd-6th grades. She loves teaching music and drama, and she has directed many musical, dance, and theater productions during her career.  She also loves teaching science, and she voluntarily teaches after-school science labs for 3rd-6th grade students.  Ms. King has enjoyed teaching many extracurricular Gifted/Talented classes during her career.  She has two "girls": a Siamese cat, named Sachi, and a German Shepard mix dog, named Kyra.  She enjoys hiking, rappelling, the JAZZ, plays/musicals, art, reading, and traveling. She loves teaching "her kids" and has been named in Who's Who Among America's Teachers four times, was a Disney American Teacher Award nominee, and has been recognized professionally by several other business and education organizations.

Mrs. Laura Packard (Writing/Language Arts)
Mrs. Packard grew up in Provo and Ephraim, Utah. She is married and has three children. She graduated from Rick's College (now called BYU-Idaho), and then graduated from Utah State University with a BA in Elementary Education and a minor in Social Science. She has taught 4th and 6th grades in Idaho, California, and Utah. Mrs. Packard was an accomplished dancer and continues to love dance and music. Every year she attends the UMEA Conference for music teachers and brings her learning and expertise to the sixth grade. Mrs. Packard enjoys spending time with her family, attending plays and musicals, traveling, music, reading, and collecting (Christmas books, Boyd's Bears, key chains, and magnets to name a few). She is an excellent writer herself, and she loves to teach young people how to be better communicators by improving their writing and speaking skills. She has been teaching for 20 years. She was also a teacher for the Sylvan Learning Centers for 6 years.  In 2011, Mrs. Packard was named as the Jordan Education Foundation's Outstanding Educator of the Year.
