Space Camp Qualifications

The Elk Meadows Sixth Grade has the opportunity to attend Space Camp at the Christa McAuliffe Space Education Center in April or May.  Space Camp is located in Pleasant Grove Elementary.  All fifth and sixth grade classes in Alpine School District have priority and are scheduled first.  Due to the amount of growth in Utah County, the number of dates for schools outside of Alpine District is limited.  Elk Meadows has been invited to attend because of the outstanding reputation built by Elk Meadows Sixth Graders for being prepared and well-behaved at Space Camp over the past six years.

The Space Camp instructions for discipline are explicit. “Please emphasize to your students that they represent your school at OUR school.  Your students should be quiet and respectful in the cafeteria, classroom and Starlab.”  Because of these instructions, students with excessive Responsibility Card (RC) marks will not be attending.

Starting November 14, 2011 through April 13, 2012, if a student has more than 60 total marks on his/her RC, that student will stay at school with a class that is not attending Space Camp that day.  As a Sixth Grade Team, we want to maintain the great reputation our students have for being well-behaved.

If you have questions, please contact your child’s homebase teacher.

Homework Support:  Teachers have been available after school in the computer lab, the writing lab, and to tutor students with their math and other subjects. Very few students are taking the opportunity to get one-on-one instruction from a teacher. Students should use after school time to get the extra help that they need. Today, Ms. King had two students, Ms. Bailey had three students, and Ms. Packard had one student stay after school. Please take advantage of this opportunity if you need it. It's amazing how much improvement can be made with just staying after school for 10-15 minutes! Be sure to make transportation arrangements, and always make sure you have parents' permission BEFORE staying after.
